7th Grade Math & Pre-Algebra - Students were given an activity to calculate the final points for the men's normal hill ski jump from the Sochi Olympics.  The formula for calculating total points involves a few constants and several variable.  The first jumpers score was calculated as an example and to show how the formula works.  Students were then allowed to work in small groups and use a calculator to calculate the remaining scores.  The formula is:

 2(d-90)+60+j+w= total points.  d=distance, j=judges score, w=wind score.  

Points from Rd 1 and the final round must be added together to find each athletes total score.   HW Finish Ski Jumping Activity if not finished in class.
